Academic Learning Remediation Programme
Do not leave the future of your child to chance! We offer cognitive, memory and academic skills testing for students of all ages. It is our belief that all children can learn and be successful students. The key to learning and academic success is finding the instruction and support that meets the learner's individual needs. Our goal is to help students develop into successful, independent learners.
Thus, the optimal academic learning outcomes for your child will be best achieved following a professional diagnosis by a Registered Educational Psychologist of your child's learning issues before parents start on any tuition or remediation programmes.
Evidence of Success:
Nearly every student has shown improvement under our remediation programme. The degree of improvement varies but in almost every case the student's rate of learning is significantly higher than it was prior to our remedial programme. About Dyslexia
Dyslexia, occurs when there is a problem in areas of the brain that help interpret language. It is not caused by vision problems. The disorder is a specific information processing problem that does not interfere with one's ability to understand complex ideas. Most people with dyslexia have normal intelligence but they may experience varying difficulties with reading, spelling, writing and language development.
Dyslexia may appear in combination with other specific learning dificulties such as dyspraxia, ADHD and developmental arithmetic disorder. Dyslexia often runs in families and it is estimated that 10% of Singaporeans may be dyslexic.
Dyslexia may lead to:
(i) Problems in school, including behavior problems and loss of self-esteem. Without early detection and remediation, the child may be labeled as "stupid" or "uncooperative". Consequently, anxiety, fear, anger, and a dislike for school may become prevalent in the child.
(ii) Reading problems that persist into adulthood, which may affect job performance, particularly, if problems are not addressed early in life.
Symptoms
A person with dyslexia may have trouble rhyming and separating sounds that make up spoken words. These abilities appear to be critical in the process of learning to read. Owing to a difficulty connecting the sounds of language to the letters of words, they may have difficulty understanding sentences and with reading comprehension. In general, symptoms of dyslexia may include:
(i) Difficulty determining the meaning (idea content) of a simple sentence, (ii) Difficulty learning to recognize written words and rhyming, (iii) may occur in combination with writing or math learning problems.

What is Giftedness?
It is developmental advancement that can be observed in early childhood. Although the term gifted is used to include many kinds of strengths, there are a few broad areas in which giftedness can show itself. They are intellectual ability, leadership ability, talent in art and music, and psychomotor ability. However, the gifted child may not advance equally in all areas.
Specifically, intellectually gifted children and adults see the world differently because of the complexity of their thought processes and their emotional intensity. People often say to them, “Why do you make everything so complicated?” “Why do you take everything so seriously?” “Why is everything so important to you?” The damage we do to gifted children and adults by ignoring their unique characteristics could be far greater than the damage we do by labeling it.
How Will My Child Benefit from Testing?
All children with advanced development require comprehensive diagnosis and early intervention in order to develop all of their capabilities. This is the primary purpose of testing rather than simply to obtain an IQ score. Individual assessment by a Registered Educational Psychologist who is experienced in testing the gifted is the best way of determining the full strength of a child's abilities objectively. Ability testing may qualify your child for special programmes or educational provisions such as subject acceleration and/or level skipping.
Characteristics of Giftedness
Some common characteristics of highly gifted children:
- Shows exceptional ability in a single area but not necessarily in others.
- Has an ability to relate to a broad range of ideas and synthesise commonalities
- Has a high degree of ability to think abstractly which develops early.
- Grasps concepts and sees relationships at an extraordinary speed.
- Displays a keen sense of curiosity/Is highly inquisitive.
- Possesses an unusual capacity for memory.
- Displays intense concentration when engaged in a task.
- Has a fascination with ideas and words.
- Uses an extensive vocabulary and expresses himself/herself well.
- Shows a sensitivity to the feelings of others.
- Shows a strong sense of right and wrong.
- Shows intolerance for vagueness/ambiguity.
- Shows a keen awareness of world issues.
- Is acutely aware of his/her own ability.
